Kanaya's Birthday @ Apartment Therapy

Couple days ago, I got a surprise: an email from Dabney Frake said that Kanaya's birthday party would be on Apartment Therapy's Family channel on Friday!

I was so thrilled and almost cried.

Shabby chic accessories organizer

Before I say anything, I better apologize for being more consumed with my Instagram and nearly abandoning my blog. Yes Instagram is so much fun... Anyway follow my Instagram @moshethings and you'll find more of my recent activities there.

Back to the title... about 2 years ago, I went to Informa & Ace Hardware's big sale and found a broken bathroom vanity mirror. The mirror has gone and only the vanity frame was left, and I bought it for IDR 100,000.- (about US$10). Not long ago, after keeping it for 2 years,  I turned it into this:

It became Kanaya's accessories organizer. To store her necklaces, bracelets, & hair bows. Not bad considering it looked like this before:

I told my workshop to add wire mesh on the door & at the back panel, painted it white and it turned into a shabby chic piece. I love restoring...

Kanaya's bird garden & doll picnic birthday party

Another birthday party... Kanaya turned 9 last February, and she wanted a bird theme party. It was only a small party, so I thought that we had to make it a little different than other parties. So we decided to make a doll party too. Every girl that's invited got to bring their favorite dolls with them. Kanaya was very excited with this idea, since she got a new baby doll, Mell Chan that she'd like to show her friends.

The party color scheme is pink & red. I used doilies for almost everything: invitation, decoration, banners, favors, etc. They're cheap but really made things prettier.

Almost everything was made by Mba Riani, DapurQ: the cupcakes (the best red velvet cupcakes I ever taste and Kanaya's favorite vanilla cupcakes), strawberry pudding, and lovely bird cookies.

I happened to got this red-white polkadot tea set last Christmas, and the cups and saucers really matched the color scheme.

The others were just strawberry wafers, lollipops from Fantasy, and strawberry milk in bottles.

Like I said before, lots of doilies were involved...

Also on the favors bag...

I made the hair bow and the bird felt pencil topper myself.

As you see on the title, it's a picnic party, meaning that no chairs were needed (meaning I didn't have to spend money to rent them :)). So I threw flowery fabric on carpet for the girls...

... and made a separated picnic area for the dolls. I used Kanaya's tea party toys and they looked very adorable... :)

The dolls also got the mini version of their owners' party hat... :)

I bought some stickers for the girls to decorate their hats while they were waiting for others to come.

The games were simple but were hits:

1. Each girl had to introduce her doll. Kanaya got to choose which one had the most interesting/ funniest way to tell about her doll, and that girl got a prize.

2. I showed the girls a tray filled with 10 doll stuffs (mostly Mell Chan's stuff): blue doll shoes, pink doll shoes, mini umbrella, milk bottle, mini toothbrush, mini toothpaste, little hat, little doll bag, a cute doll dress, and a toy spoon. I showed them for about 10 seconds while told them the name of each stuff. After that I hid the tray and the girls had to write those stuffs on a piece of paper. Girls who could write 10 stuffs would get prizes. And there were 3 girls who could write all the stuffs!

3. We put all the dolls in one laundry basket. Each girl took turn to be blind folded and had to look for her doll by touching. This time, every girl got a prize coz ofcourse it was an easy game. But surely this game was the biggest hit.

After tired of laughing and screaming during the games, the girls were ready to eat. The dolls went to their picnic area (unfortunately I don't have the photo). After praying, the girls decided the dessert table were their first stop, not the main meal table. They were all together picked the same first sweet: the bird cookies! I guess the cookies were too adorable to be eaten later. Then, I couldn't stop them when they ate lollipop before their meal...

The day ended with all girls played together with their dolls. Kanaya got her best day in a year today.

They inspired me to make some shabby chic romantic bows for this spring (kinda late, I know...). Hopefully I can make time to create it...

Kanaya's princess birthday party

The party was last Saturday... Did some of the stuffs in very last minute, but I'm quite happy with the way it turned out.

This is the little "dessert bar"...

Cupcakes from Cupkeiks. The cupcake toppers were designed & printed by myself... :)

Cookies by Cinnamon Cake. I love the shapes (dresses, shoes, crowns & magic wands) & the emboss texture that Mba Nani Selian did for the icing. You can see more detailed picture here. Great job Mba Nani... :)

Love the Chinese take away boxes from Kinderplay. I printed the "please fill me" label & put the ribbon myself. The girls loved filling these with anything on the table.

The girls decorated crown headbands while waiting for other girls to come. I made them using glittered crown shaped thick paper that attached to colorful headband using felt. I bought some mobile phone stickers so the girls can stick the embellishment without glue mess.

 

I put some make up (just a little eye shadow, blush & lip gloss) on each girl at the "beauty bar". Each also got a princess tattoo. The girls loved to be pampered that way... The beauty bar located in Kanaya's room on her dressing/ study table.

The blue traincase on the right had the goodie bags for the girls to choose & fill with any dress up items on the table. There are magic wand pencils, sily bandz & tattoos & hair bows.

 

I put some prizes for the games on the tray too. There are couple of little mirrors, polkadot hairbows & beaded bracelet made by Kanaya.

Look at those sticker tattoos... aren't they cute? The girls couldn't wait to have them on their arms.

We didn't have any photo booth, but I decided to turn Kanaya's bedroom wall into one. Her bedroom has purple & torquise color wall with tree & birds decal that I made.

 

The look at the girls' faces were priceless. What I want the most is that Kanaya had a good time with her friends on her birthday. And she did...
